Tips To Stay Motivated to Continue Exercising During Lockdown
This Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown has hit us
all so hard. One, in particular, was not able to go to the gym. With no access
to equipment, I had to use household items as substitute for weights. All I have,
besides my gym wear and shoes, was my Yoga mat.
In the early days, I brushed off one day after
another as my ‘break’ day. After a week, I started panicking that I was going
to start losing the muscles I had slaved to build over the years. A big NO.
I started with doing floor exercises, push-ups,
squats, lunges etc. But the environment wasn’t so motivating and I lack the
space in my small apartment. What used to be 100 squats became half. What used
to be 1½ hours of exercise became 45 minutes with lots of breaks, especially
with a toddler screaming for attention.
So, here are my tips to take charge of yourself and continue with your exercise regimen during the lockdown.
1. Isolate
Tell everyone that you have a conference call. And not to be disturbed for an hour. Lock yourself in your room and use that hour for
exercise. They'd probably wonder why you are so sweaty after.
2. Protein
Continue with proper diet, protein shakes including whey protein
and energy boosting food, and a definite NO to new-born chefs experimenting
with desserts.
3. Weigh
Continue to weigh yourself regularly to ensure that your weight stays constant.
4. Equipment
Instead of lifting jars of food and detergents, invest in equipment such as gym ball and dumbbells for strength training.
5. Right gear
And make sure to dress up in the right outfit. Believe me, you will be more eager to exercise wearing your gym outfit rather than the oversized raggedy pyjamas.
Follow these tips, stay motivated and keep energised!
